We Built the Platform Cell Therapy Was Missing.
Three convictions, in the order we arrived at them.
We started PBS Biotech because cell therapy was clearly going to move from a handful of academic successes to medicines manufactured at scale. The bioreactors the industry had were built for a different problem — stirred tanks were designed for microbes and proteins, not for living cells that bruise. Scaling a cell therapy in one meant changing the very thing you were trying to keep constant.
The Vertical-Wheel® platform is designed around a single requirement: the environment a cell experiences should not change when the volume does. That has to work in both directions. Scale up from 0.1 L to 80 L, and scale down from a commercial process to a benchtop model that genuinely predicts it — same geometry, same energy dissipation, same result. Five systems, one continuous platform.
Our customers told us the hardware was only half the problem. Cell therapy is still a young field: there is no settled playbook, few standard protocols, and process knowledge is scarce and hard-won. So our application scientists run feasibility, optimization and tech transfer alongside your team — and we publish what we learn, across 40+ studies and application notes, so the whole field moves faster and not just the programs we work on.
